Solidarity vigil in Damascus in condemnation of Israeli attacks on medical personnel in Gaza

The Syrian Arab Red Crescent today participated in a solidarity vigil organized by the Palestinian Red Crescent in front of Yaffa Hospital in Damascus, in condemnation of the Israeli attacks against medical personnel in Gaza Strip.

Atef Ibrahim, Director of the Palestinian Red Crescent in Syria, said that this vigil is one of several vigils organized by the Red Crescent branches across the region in solidarity with medical personnel in Gaza, who are being subjected to Israeli attacks, including the deliberate killing of eight Palestinian Red Crescent personnel and a number of civil defense personnel while performing their humanitarian duty.

Ibrahim indicated that the goal of these vigils is to express solidarity with the people in Gaza and with the medical personnel carrying out their professional and humanitarian duties, and to pressure the international community and international organizations to take up their role in preventing these attacks and obliging the Israeli occupation to respect international laws.

In turn, Mohammed Saeed the coordinator of the Syrian Arab Red Crescent, emphasized that medical personnel around the world are protected under international humanitarian law and must not be subjected to harassment, especially since they are at the forefront of those arriving on the ground to perform their humanitarian duties.

He pointed out that their participation in the vigil stems from a belief in the need for concerted efforts to protect humanitarian workers.

The head of public relations and media at the Palestinian Red Crescent Jamal Saeed Hammad clarified that the Israeli occupation forces directly killed and executed eight volunteers and paramedics, then buried them in an attempt to cover up their crime.

He noted that the Palestinian Red Crescent in Ramallah and its branches in Arab countries took the initiative to condemn this crime and demand the prosecution of its perpetrators. He also said that several vigils were held in various locations around the world in solidarity with medical personnel in Gaza
