DAMASCUS COUNTRYSIDE- A solidarity stand was held in Jaramana Camp in Damascus countryside on Saturday to voice support for Palestinian prisoner Maher al-Khras, who was on a 103-day hunger strike, and for all other captives in the Israeli occupation jails.
The stand was organized by the Palestinian Factions Alliance, a number of leaders and members of the Palestinian factions, representatives of prisoners’ commissions as well as religious, social and civil society figures from Palestine and Syria took part in the event.
The participants urged the international community and the world’s human rights institutions to put an end to the racist policies and arbitrary measures being practiced by the occupation entity toward the Palestinian prisoners and to force the occupation to abide by the rules of the international humanitarian law.
The hunger strike in the occupation jails is a form of resistance and a message confirming that the prisoners’ will can’t be broken nor defeated and that the enemy can’t confiscate their freedom, the participants stressed.
Palestinian captive Maher al-Akhras yesterday suspended his hunger strike which lasted for 103 days after an agreement was reached with Israeli occupation stipulating that the occupation authorities release Al-Akhras on November 26th on condition that he spends the period preceding his release in hospital.
The participants stressed the importance of setting out a unified strategic vision, mobilizing the potentials of the Palestinian people, escalating resistance against the occupation and strengthening ties with the countries and forces of the axis of resistance in support of Palestinian rights. They hailed Syria’s support for the Palestinian cause and for the rights of the Palestinian people in liberating their occupied land, release the prisoners and establish an independent Palestinian state with al-Quds as its eternal capital.
