Politicians and Members of Parliaments from Latin America confirmed that the coercive, unilateral western economic measures being imposed on Syria constitute a violation of international legitimacy and international law and a crime against humanity, especially in light of the outbreak of a Coronavirus epidemic.
They also condemned the European Union’s decision to renew the sanctions on Syria.
Speaking to the correspondent of the Syrian News Agency (SANA), Chairman of the Chilean-Syrian Friendship Committee in the National Congress of Chile Senator Francisco Chahuán said that the west, which imposes sanctions and invalid coercive measures on Syria, is the one who praises human rights; however, its policies and actions prove the opposite and show the truth of its colonial policies.
On her part, President of the Continental Latin American and Caribbean Student Organization (OCLAE), has called for the necessity of lifting the sanctions being imposed on Syria in the light of the outbreak of the Covid-1`9 pandemic.
She asserted that the EU’s decision to renew sanctions on Syria is an irresponsible and inhumane action.
Head of a media network in Caracas said that the extension of sanctions against Syria shows the falseness of European countries’ slogans about freedom and human rights.
The extension of sanctions was also denounced by the president of the University Students Union in Venezuela, head of the Cuban-Syrian Friendship Committee in the Cuban Parliament and the Official in charge of International Relations of the Socialist Youth Union of Brazil.
The sanctions are denounced because they aim at harming the interests of the Syrian people and increasing their suffering and because they are part of the American policies and dictations that they are trying to impose on the region.
