The Ministry of State for Environmental Affairs in cooperation with the Korean Business Center and volunteers held Sunday an activity in the Citadel of Damascus on the occasion of Mother’s Day.
The activity included a handcrafts exhibition, painting workshop, competition for mothers and stage show that mirrors patriotism and mother’s role in family and society.
It came within the activities of the ‘Shajarati’ project [My Tree project] that seek to focus on the role of mother in instilling positive values in children and to disseminate the principle of environmental education, according to the Director of Biodiversity and Reserves in the Environmental Affairs Ministry Eng. Bilal al-Hayek.
While Dr. Naser Flihan- From the ‘Phoenix’ Forum- asserted that the Syrian woman has become an example of the steadfast mother in fighting terrorism.
Also on Sunday, another activity was held by the charity ‘al-Shabab’ Association in Dommar area in Damascus where 50 mothers were honored.
The ‘al-Shabab’ Association [Youth Association] founded in 2005 provides aid to displaced families.
Last Thursday, there was an art exhibition in the Loai Kayali Hall in Damascus under the title “Syria is the mother’.
About 52 paintings by the artist Sariha Shahin were shown in the exhibition depicting the national status of the Syrian woman.
“I highly appreciate the role of the Syrian woman during the war on the country,” Shahin said, adding that art helps disseminate love and beauty in the society.
Basma Qaddour
