So-called nuclear crisis is as a result of disloyalty of US, European troika

TEHRAN, The spokesman for the Iranian Foreign Ministry says that the so-called nuclear crisis is resulted from irresponsibility and lack of commitment of the United States and the European troika which have issued a statement on the sidelines of the G20 Summit, according to IRNA.

Saeed Khatibzadeh made the remarks in reaction to the statement issued by the US and the European troika- France, Germany, and Britain.

Referring to Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei’s fatwa (verdict) which prohibits building nuclear weapons, the spokesman said that the top officials of the Islamic Republic of Iran have always stressed that the country is not and will be not after nuclear weapons.

Nuclear weapons have no place in the Islamic Republic’s defense doctrine, Khatibzadeh noted.

He went on to say that Iran, as a responsible member of the Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT) and the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), has been cooperating with the technical body within the framework of Safeguards Agreements.

Iran has proved its goodwill through full faithfulness to its commitments even a year after the US May 2018 unilateral withdrawal from the international nuclear deal, aka Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA).

Further, he said Tehran welcomes the other sides’ determination to fully return to their commitments.

“Our criterion is the other side’s action (practical measure).”

As the spokesman stressed, the new US government continues the maximum pressure policy although it had already declared the reverse stance.
