Snow sculpture in the town of Shin, Homs

In his own language and with  simple tools, the plastic artist Ali Salloum, son of Shin in Homs countryside, shaped snowballs to create a distinctive and well-made sculpture that has drawn the attention of both the people and visitors of the area and has been shared by many social media fans and followers.

Artist Salloum explained to a SANA reporter that this work has his own identity associated with his environment and its enchanting nature, as he put it. He said, “The sculpture was executed with the aim of making people happy in light of this harsh cold weather. Many people in the town were waiting for me to do art every time the snow fell, especially since I had already completed a snow mermaid statue several years ago, and it had great resonance.”

The sculpture, as Salloum describes it, is for a dignified old man with a long beard el. He used simple tools, “knife, spoon” to accomplish it. He was keen to show the details and curves of the face, which increased the beauty  of the shape.

Salloum’s experience of painting and sculpture is not the result of the moment or the past years, but rather his talent that accompanied him since childhood, as he was following his father’s work in the field of painting. He later embodied various psychological states, themes, and characters with distinctive oil paintings. Then he invested his talent in making concrete decorations that depend on carving and continued in this field.

It is noteworthy that the plastic artist Ali Salloum has produced numerous paintings and works and has participated in two exhibitions of art. Although he did not study art at an institute or college, but his innate talent, which he has refined and improved by working hard, following up and developing his own abilities himself, as he said.
