Slovakia to send humanitarian aid to Syria to support people affected by earthquake

Bratislava, (ST) – Slovakia announced that it will send today a plane carrying humanitarian aid to Syria, as part of efforts to mitigate the repercussions of the devastating earthquake.

The official spokeswoman for the Slovak Ministry of Interior Zuzana Eliashova stated that the aid includes 6.5 tons of food and health supplies, as well as other kinds of aid to secure the needs of the Syrian Civil Defense.

Eliashova indicated that the plane will land at Beirut Airport, where its cargo will be unloaded and transported directly to Syria through the Humanitarian Aid Department of the European Union, which is present in the region and it cooperates with the Syrian Arab Red Crescent. She pointed out that coordination has been made in this regard with the Slovak Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Syrian students and the Socialist Party in Slovakia organize a humanitarian aid campaign for the earthquake victims

In the samecontext, the branch of the National Union of Syrian Students in Slovakia, in cooperation with the Slovak Socialist Party, organized a campaign of in-kind and financial aid for the victims of the earthquake that struck Syria on the sixth of last month.

The Head of the Student Branch, Dr. Ali Asaad, explained in a statement to SANA reporter that the aid comes within the framework of the solidarity of the Syrian expatriates with the people affdcted by the earthquake. It includes blankets and clothes, in addition to financial donations, he said, noting that the aid will be transferred to the Austrian capital Vienna, and from there to the port of Latakia.

In a similar statement, the Head of the Socialists’ Party, Artur Bekmatov, expressed his party’s solidarity with the earthquake victims and its stand by the Syrian people in these difficult circumstances. He stressed that this earthquake and its repercussions revealed the inhuman face of the West that supports the authoritarianism of the United States by imposing unilateral coercive measures against the Syrian people, which exacerbate the suffering of the people in all respects.

Bekmatov called on the international community to support the Syrian people in these difficult circumstances, lift the blockade, cancel all economic and other measures immediately, and not politicize relief aid.
