LATTAKIA, (ST) – It is known that most of the natural or artificial lakes take typical square shapes, circular or longitudinal although there are a few number of lakes that take romantic forms such as the one found in Slenfeh, Lattakia. The lake lies between the folds of the fir forests in view of the fact that it takes the form of a heart and water collects in the middle. The most external borders of the lake like the heart lines, prompting many people who had visited the lake to call it as the “Heart Lake”.
Despite its small size, it has become a place of attraction for many people coming for enjoyment, especially in winter because the rainwater fills it for six months.
Snowfall gives the lake a beautiful scene where its borders can be specified with white lines while the middle stays the same as if the snow did not approach it. When rain fills its middle, the borders remain drawn as they are and can’t be removed no matter how much the rain is hard, as if its mud were of rock that can’t be influenced be the harsh elements of nature, according to Amer Yaziji, a visitor, said.
During summer season, the lake becomes dry and its shape tends to the green heart due to the fact that flowers and herbs grow in its veins, says Heba Barakat, a student at the Faculty of Economy.
The site of the lake, in fact, likes the heart that mediates the body. It lies in a valley at the bottom of fir forests where trees surround it from all sides, Mrs. Barakat sadded.
For her part, Rudeineh Khallouf, a resident of the area sees that the lake forms the lifeblood for many of the birds that flutter above the trees surrounding it and return to sip some of its fresh water. The heart lake, with its charm and brightness, has attracted a lot of visitors from and outside the region to enjoy its beauty in winter and in summer.
