The Sixth Folklore Festival, which kicked off recently at the Directorate of Culture in Sweida, presented several cultural activities that highlighted the need to preserve Syria’s rich heritage.
The activities of the festival, which is organized in cooperation between the directorate of heritage at the Ministry of Culture and Sweida Culture directorate , included the opening of a tangible heritage exhibition which displayed dozens of traditional pieces and tools including straw dishes, embroidery, food, water and lighting tools , ancient measures and handicrafts. .
On the sideline of opening the sixth folklore festival , a number of distinguished figures and archaeologists , who have contributed effectively in shedding light on the treasures of the rich Syrian heritage , were honored.
A number of traditional dancing performances from different Syrian provinces were also presented.
On his part , Director of Culture in Sweida Basel Al-Hinnawi underlined that the festival witnesses remarkable participation by creative and distinguished researchers in the field of heritage.
He highlighted the support of the Ministry of Culture, believing in the importance of heritage and the need to preserve and protect it, pointing out that heritage represents our values and identity and enhances our belonging and plays a major role in the cohesion of society.
The festival’s activities, which are due to last till the 18th of November, will include holding a number of symposiums and exhibitions related to heritage, as well as poetry evenings and heritage performances.
