Six Syrian teams qualify for International University Programming Competition

Six Syrian teams have qualified for the International University Programming Competition after obtaining advanced positions in the regional final of the Programming Competition for University Colleges in the Arab World and Africa “ACPC”.  The Arab Academy for Science, Technology and Maritime Transport organized the regional final on Monday in Luxor, Egypt. The finals  included 145 teams from 16 countries.

Engineer Salma Kabbani, director of the software competition at the Syrian Virtual University, said in a statement to SANA today: The qualified Syrian teams represent the universities of “Damascus, Aleppo, Al-Baath, Tishreen, the Virtual University and the Higher Institute for Applied Sciences and Technology,” at the rate of one team from each university.

 

Kabbani noted the importance of this achievement, as 12 of the 145 teams participating in the regional competition qualified for the global competition in which the largest and most prestigious universities in the world participate.

The competition, in which a group of university students, programmers, trainers, and academics working in the field of informatics at the level of the Arab world participated, lasted five continuous hours and included high-level programming problems.

The competition is called “the war of minds”. It is more than just an academic and technological competition, as it has become the basis for building a more cooperative global information society. Participants are not only required to solve problems, but also to invent smart and effective ways to solve.
