Shulgin: The West seeks to make OPCW a tool to undermine the political solution to crisis in Syria

Moscow – Russia’s Permanent Representative to the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW) Alexander Shulgin said that the West through politicizing the work of the Organization through the mechanism of identifying the responsibility aims at foiling the political solution to the crisis in Syria, SANA reported.

Shulgin clarified in a press interview published in Russian Izvestia Newspaper that the Western countries are working on politicizing the work of OPCW and pushing it towards holding the Syrian government responsible for the use of chemical weapons, which means inclusively foiling the efforts for the political solution to the crisis in the country.

He pointed out that Washington, London and some other capitals do not want the war in Syria to reach an end.

Shulgin stressed Russia’s rejection to fund the special organ OPCW decided to establish for implementing its new tasks related on identifying those responsible for the use of chemical weapons.
