Moscow (ST): Russia’s permanent representative to the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons, Alexander Shulgin, affirmed that Syria continues to fulfill its obligations under the Chemical Weapons Convention and its close cooperation with the Organization.
Shulgin said in an interview with Sputnik today that Damascus continues to responsibly fulfill its obligations under the Chemical Weapons Convention and cooperate closely with the Organization.
Shulgin added that the last 97th session of the Executive Council was the first meeting of the governing bodies of the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons since the adoption of the decision to suspend Syria’s rights and privileges under the Chemical Weapons Convention, explaining that delegations still have to assess the size and implications of this step and understand how to move forward in this regard.
Shulgin stressed that everyone is well aware that the conditions they have presented to Syria are not achievable, and therefore no one has any doubts about a possible change in the situation for the better.
The 97th session of the Executive Council of the Organization was held between the sixth and ninth of July.
