Shulgin: Many countries are fed up with the US attempts to stir up hysteria against Russia and Syria at the OPCW

Russia’s Permanent Representative to the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW) Alexander Shulgin has slammed the repeated attempts by the United States and its allies’ to stir up hysteria  against Russia and Syria at the organization, stressing that other OPCW member states have become fed up with such attempts.

In a statement on Friday,  Shulgin said that “the OPCW’s 26th session has shown the deep divisions within this body. The US and its allies continue to stir up hysteria against Russia and Syria while many other member countries are now fed up with the discussions raised by Washington and its allies to politicize the work of the organization.”

Shulgin pointed out  that many countries affirm the need to stop politicizing the OPCW’s work and to restore its normal non-politicized nature, warning that through this behavior, confirms that Washington is determined to continue with its efforts to turn the organization into a tool that serves its geopolitical interest.

He reiterated that his country will spare no effort to restore the sovereignty of the international law, maintain the safety of the Chemical Weapons Convention and normalize the OPCW’s work.
