Shukri underlines importance of combatting terrorism & its backers in Syria

Egyptian foreign minister Sameh Sukri reiterated the necessity of confronting the reality that terrorist organizations are operating in Syria and that there are  regional parties supporting them.

Shukri’s remarks came during  a telephone call with the UN Special envoy to Syria Gher Pederson.

The spokesman for the Egyptian Foreign Ministry Ahmad Hafez said that Shukri affirmed his country’s determination to support the efforts being exerted to realize a political settlement for the crisis in Syria according to UN Security Council Resolution No. 2254 in a way that  preserves Syria’s sovereignty, independence and territorial integrity, meets the aspirations of Syrian people and restores Syria’s key role at the Arab and international arenas.

 

Hafez added that the two sides reviewed the latest developments in Syria, noting that Shukri called for unifying efforts to  support Syria in confronting the spread of Corona virus pandemic.

Last month Shukri met Pederson and affirmed the necessity of combatting terrorism and the extremist organizations in Syria.
