Shtayyeh: The American veto is a new license for the occupation to continue killing and displacing Palestinians

Occupied Al-Quds, (ST) – Palestinian Prime Minister Muhammad Shtayyeh condemned the United States’ use of the “veto” to prevent the UN Security Council from adopting a draft resolution demanding an end to the Israeli aggression against the Gaza Strip. He stressed that the veto is a new license for the occupation to continue killing and displacing Palestinians from the Strip.

Wafa News Agency on Saturday quoted Shtayyeh as saying in a statement: The failure of the Security Council to pass the draft resolution submitted by the UAE to stop the aggression against our people in the Gaza Strip due to Washington’s use of the “veto” is a disgrace and a new license for the occupation to continue killing, destroying and displacing. It exposes the lie of concern for the lives of civilians. He pointed out that what happened represents an insult to all free people in the world, and a violation of the values of truth, justice, freedom and human rights, and of all countries calling for human rights.

Shtayyeh expressed his thanks to the countries that voted in favor of the draft resolution, calling on them to recognize the independent Palestinian state and to continue their efforts to stop the aggression against the Gaza Strip and bring relief aid into it immediately.

In turn, the Permanent Representative of Palestine to the United Nations, Riyad Mansour said: The failure of the Security Council to adopt the draft resolution is extremely unfortunate and disastrous.

Mansour added: Instead of allowing the Council to pursue its mandate by issuing a clear invitation after two months of massacres and atrocities, war criminals are given more time to commit their crimes, wondering how anyone can justify the slaughter of an entire people.

Russia’s Deputy Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Dmitry Polyansky confirmed that Washington’s use of the veto is a death sentence for tens of thousands in Palestine, and that history will not forgive it for that. He indicated that some countries use beautiful phrases such as human rights and a rules-based global order, but with failure to pass the resolution, we witnessed the true values of this regime, when we saw two permanent members of the Security Council tolerating Israel’s bloodshed.
