Shtayyeh: Ending the Occupation and Establishing the Palestinian State is the most important condition for achieving sustainable development there

Palestinian Prime minister Mohammed Shtayyeh stressed that working to end Israeli occupation of Palestine in accordance with the international resolutions is the responsibility of the entire international community, stressing that the establishment of an independent Palestinian state is the most important condition for achieving sustainable development there.

Wafaa Agency reported that Shtayyeh explained in a speech yesterday before the High Level Political Forum on Sustainable Development held at the United Nations in New York that with the passage of middle period since the adoption of sustainable development agenda, the Palestinian people are still struggling to catch up with global movement in light of settler colonialism controls the land, the borders and crossing of Palestine, takes away its resources and practices everything that would undermine its development opportunities.

Shattyeh pointed out that the United Nations’ plan to achieve sustainable development confirmed that this requires establishing peace and sovereignty of states over their national wealth, natural resources, and economic activities, and called for taking the necessary measures in accordance with the international law, in order to remove the obstacles which prevent the realization of the right of self-determination for people  suffering under the colonialism and foreign occupation which negatively affects their ability to achieve comprehensive development.

Shtayyeh noted that the Palestinians will continue their struggle to gain their freedom and independence and they will work to achieve sustainable development by the year 2030, but if Israel continues its occupation and its settlement and colonial measures towards land and people, this will limit the ability to achieve development.
