Syria has ever been committed to dialogue among all Syrians as a means of political solution to the ongoing crisis in the country. The political leadership repeatedly underlined and asserted such a wise way out from the crisis and away from whatever foreign meddling and intervention. Thus, many measures, steps were taken, decrees and laws issued, including the amendment, in a popular referendum, of the Syrian Constitution itself, particularly Article 8 regarding the Baath Arab Socialist Partly leading role, and definite presidential terms.
Amid the much of talking about a possible Geneva 2 meeting, as called for by Russia and the USA, the political solution for the crisis, expectedly not to be different from the most objective solution outlined in H.E. President Bashar Al-Assad’s January 6th landmark speech, highlighted in the Syrian Government political plan for the solution, seems, unfortunately, to be shrouded in mystery due to the destructive policies pursued by some Arab and foreign countries!
The Syrians are indeed aware of the sinister schemes and plots hatched against their country, as well as of the huge Gulf, Turkish and Western backing to terrorists on the ground. Thus, as H.E. President Al-Assad, declared in his recent interview with Al-Manar TV, the coming Geneva talks- if any- might possibly fail because ” there are states that are obstructing the meeting in principle, and they are going only to avoid embarrassment. They are opposed to any dialogue whether inside or outside Syria. Even the Russians, in several statements, have dampened expectations from this conference.”
However, “we should also be accurate in defining this dialogue, particularly in relation to what is happening on the ground. Most of the factions engaged in talking about what is happening in Syria have no influence on the ground; they don’t even have direct relationships with the terrorists. In some instances these terrorists are directly linked with the states that are backing them, in other cases, they are mere gangs paid to carry out terrorist activities.”
“So, the failure of the conference will not significantly change the reality inside Syria, because these states will not stop supporting the terrorists – conference or no conference, and the gangs will not stop their subversive activities.”
With this in mind, came the recent revelations by the Independent: Patrick Cockburn, wrote on Sunday 2 June, that “There may be a more sinister reason why the US has started setting the bar so high for talks. Washington’s involvement is greater than appears because so much of it goes through Qatar, with the CIA determining who gets arms and money sent via Turkey. This would also explain why Britain and France are so keen to send the “rebels” weapons
Cockburn concluded that the explanation for the actions of the Western states may be that they do not want the war to end except as a victory for their allies….And Britain and France are playing a small but mischievous role in ensuring the slaughter in Syria continues.
