MOSCOW- Russian Minister of Defense Sergei Shoigu has urged all international humanitarian organizations to intensify aid in the Syrian Arab Republic.
Shoigu made the remarks during his meeting with Peter Maurer, President of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) who is taking part in Moscow International Security Conference 2018 due to be held on April 4-5.
The Russian Minister of Defense, on its website, pointed out that the International Committee of the Red Cross has done much in Syria.
“I believe we can discuss everything here today, and of course we are looking forward to your report tomorrow at the conference. There will be many guests who are ready and interested to discuss further steps on stabilizing situation in Syria, and certainly, fighting against international terrorism, providing civilians with aid”, stressed Shoigu.
Peter Maurer supported the suggestion of the Russian Minister of Defense to intensify humanitarian aid for civilians in Syria.
He also expressed hope that he will be able to discuss with Sergei Shoigu prospects for cooperation not only in Syria, but also in other regions.
Fighting Terrorism in Syria Main Subject to be Discussed at Moscow International Security Conference
Delegations of 95 countries including Syria would attend the conference to discuss ways of fighting terrorism in Syria.
It is supposed that 95 countries’ delegates among them 30 Defense Ministers, 15 Chiefs of General Staff and the deputies of the Defense Ministers in addition to 8 international organizations and 68 foreign experts who are pioneers in the security field would participate in the conference.
The Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu said that the experience of fighting terrorism in Syria would be one of the main subjects that would be sought in the conference.
During the conference, the Russian side would show its expectations about the situations’ development in the Middle East and the issue of reconstruction in Syria.
