MOSCOW, (ST)- Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu has announced that the new multifunctional mobile complex “Sapsan-convoy”, a new weapon that aims to detect drones and interfere with the channels of navigation satellite systems, may be sent to Syria if its tests during the “Caucasus 2020” military exercises succeed.
Inspecting the Russian pavilion at the International Military and Technical Forum “Army-2020” in Moscow, Shoigu said “we have to develop such complexes. If it is ready for testing, let us test it on the strategic command ranges “Caucasus 2020”. If we get good results, we will suggest sending it to Syria.”
The Minister added that it is necessary to shorten the time period from the development to the creation of new models of weapon so that they can be put into combat service.
The International Military and Technical Forum “Army 2020” opened on August 23 and will last until August 29.
