Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed elected as President of UAE

The Federal Supreme Council of the United Arab Emirates on Saturday unanimously elected Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan as President of the United Arab Emirates, the Emirates News Agency reported.

The Council held a meeting today at Al Mushrif Palace in Abu Dhabi, chaired by Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President, Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, and attended by Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan and the emirates’ rulers.

A statement issued by the Ministry of Presidential Affairs said that according to Article 51 of the Constitution, Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan was unanimously elected as the President of the UAE to succeed the late Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan.

 The Federal Supreme Council expressed its full confidence that the people of the UAE will remain a faithful guardian of the Union and its gains at all levels”.

On his part, Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed expressed his appreciation for the precious trust placed in him by the council.

On Friday, the UAE Ministry of Presidential Affairs announced the death of the President of the United Arab Emirates, Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan.
