Sheikh Meshal Al-Ahmad takes oath as New Emir of Kuwait

Sheikh Meshal Al-Ahmad was sworn in on Wednesday in before the Kuwaiti parliament as the 17th Emir of Kuwait, succeeding his brother, the late Emir Sheikh Nawaf Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah.

Kuwait News Agency KUNA reported that the Speaker of the Kuwaiti National Assembly, Ahmed Abdel Aziz Al-Saadoun, issued an invitation to hold a special session today for Sheikh Meshaal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah to take the constitutional oath at the request of the government.

The Kuwaiti Council of Ministers called Sheikh Meshaal Emir of the country after the death of Sheikh Nawaf Al-Ahmad last Saturday.
