Shamkhani Urges Saudi Government to Honor International Responsibility

Secretary of Supreme Council of National Security Ali Shamkhani on Sunday urged Saudi rulers to honor international responsibility of government and the International Customary Law to punish agents involved in human tragedy in Mecca.

He made the remarks on the sidelines of funeral procession held for victims of human tragedy in Saudi Arabia.

 

He said that Saudi rulers should act responsibly towards those unaccounted for and cooperate with Iranian officials to find their bodies.

Shamkhani noted that finding the bodies of those still missing is a very sensitive issue for Iran.

He accused the Saudi government for failure to honor international responsibility in line with the International Customary law and the provisions formulated by International Law Commission in 2001.

Mismanagements in conduct of Hajj pilgrimage this year was so high that some analysts dare to propose the idea that the stampede has been pre-planned, he added.

Shamkhani said that the Saudi government must honor its international responsibility to hold inquiry to the tragedy in presence of representatives from Iran and the Organization of the Islamic Cooperation.

He attributed criminal action of Takfiri terrorists across the region to Saudi government in addition to the Mina tragedy and said such wrongful acts perpetrated by the Saudi government damage the image of Islam.

On September 24, a fatal crush took place in Mina as two large crowds of pilgrims were on their way to participate in the symbolic stoning the Satan, a Hajj ritual.

104 bodies of dead Iranian pilgrims arrived at Tehran’s Mehrabad Airport early Saturday and another 114 bodies arrived on Sunday.

A total of 465 Iranian pilgrims lost their lives during the Hajj rituals in Mina.
