Shabaan : Priority to stop terrorism, Presidential Elections on Time
DAMASCUS,(ST)_ Media Advisor at the Republic Presidency, Dr. Butheina Shabaan, stressed that the Syrian government will spare no efforts to stop the bloodshed in Syria, noting that it was the first to accept attending Geneva Conference 2, according to Geneva Act 1 in order to serve the interests of the Syrian people while other party has been blocking the political process.
“ The Syrian government supported UN Resolution 2139 on the delivery of humanitarian assistance to those in need and Syria is cooperating since the beginning of the crisis with UN organizations, the Syrian Red Crescent and the International Committee of the Red Cross ICRC to deliver aid to any accessible area, but terrorists and prevented delivery of humanitarian aid to those in need,” Shabaan explained, pointing out that U.S. assessments about what is happening in Syria were false and inaccurate, including the assessment of resolution 2139.
On the so-called transitional governing body Shabaan said : ” there is no such term in politics as this term was invented specially for us and we believe in having a broad government including all parties, and have no objection to that, but Geneva should be discussed 1 item by item.”
Shabaan continued that the priority for the Syrian delegation is that of the Syrian citizen envisaged in attaining security, safety,to stop terrorism then move on to discuss the expanded government.
She explained that the media exaggeration of the so-called Battle of Damascus is an essential part of targeting of Syria, particularly in the light of the reconciliations taking place in various Syrian provinces and the change in the Syrian popular mood against terrorism, arms and strife and bloodshed and restoration of normal life to the Syrians.
Shabaan stressed that Israel has the higher interest in everything happening in Syria, noting that Israel has repeatedly declared having army officers leading the military operations in Syria, and is developing dozens of scenarios with regard to this alleged battle, stressing that the Syrian Army is attentive towards this media exaggeration and, taking necessary preparations against any possible scenario.
On the continued flow of terrorists to Syria via Jordan Shabaan said: “ We do not communicate with Jordan on the issue of gunmen but it’s hard to believe that the Jordanian government is not aware of the entry of militants from Jordan to Syria.”
On Quitting Bandar bin Sultan from the Syrian file she added that changing a person does not make sense, nor of concern for us, in the case of Saudi Arabia regime remains the same in operating in the same manner and with same enemies targeting Syria.
On convening the presidential elections on schedule, she emphasized that the presidential election will be held on schedule and will open the door for nomination of all opposition poles, according to the Constitution, noting that Syria is a sovereign state, governed by the Constitution and we do not have to accept international supervision,as we have credibility, adding “ we do not accept foreign interference because questioning will happen no matter what we do.”
“We believe that current conditions are optimum and do not require postponement of the elections, unless something out of the will happens, as the Syrian army is scoring victories and the situation is improving daily, and we are optimists that the Syrian army will be in Raqqa within two months.”
