Shaaban: The war on Syria is a cultural and intellectual war, it aims at undermining the national identity of the Syrian people

MOSCOW, (ST) – The Special Adviser to the Syrian Presidency Bouthaina Shaaban affirmed that the war on Syria has primarily been a cultural and intellectual one and it aimed at undermining the national identity of the Syrian people and abolishing the cultural coexistence which the Syrians are distinguished for.

During her meeting in Moscow yesterday evening with Professor Fyodor Witlovsky, Director of the Institute of World Economy and International Relations in Russia, Shaaban referred to the important role played by the media at this stage and at every stage. She indicated that “we are facing an intellectual war and a war of narratives. The West possesses a huge media machine that pumps out false narratives that aim to mislead people and divert opinions away from the correct course of events”.

Shaaban pointed out that the world is heading towards a multipolar international order led by China and Russia to end American arrogance and Western hegemony.

She stressed the support of President Bashar Al-Assad and the Syrian people for the Russian position and decision that not only seeks to defend Russia but also the whole world.

In turn, Professor Witlovsky stated that the United States of America has always pursued a policy of “pouring fuel on fire” in the Russian-Ukrainian conflict, noting America’s indifference about reaching any peaceful settlement between the two parties and its attempts to fuel conflicts in the region.

For her part, Dr. Orina Zvyagilskaya, Director of the Middle East Research Center, stressed the importance of enhancing relations between the Russian and Syrian societies and spreading awareness about Western policies that aim at undermining national identity.

Zvyagilskaya praised the qualitative work carried out by the Wathiqat Watan (Homeland Document) Foundation for Oral History in Syria, stressing that this work enhances the identity of the homeland.
