Shaaban: The Syrians Determined to Triumph over Terrorism

DAMASCUS, (ST)- Dr. Bouthaina Shaaban, the Presidential Political and Media Advisor has stressed the Syrians’ determination to triumph over terrorism.

Dr. Shaaban, who was speaking on Sunday to a delegation representing the Evangelical Synod and the Evangelical Presbyterian Church in the United States, explained the goals and impacts of the ongoing terrorist war on Syria and referred to the inciting role played by western media to aggravate this war through depending on “al-Jazeera” and “al-Arabia” channels’ reports as main sources of information.

She affirmed the steadfastness of the Syrian Arab Army and people in the face of terrorism.

Shaaban inquired about the role of the Western media, which claims being “free”, in conveying the truth about the suffering of peoples to the citizens in Western countries.

The presidential advisor shed light on the role played by Qatar, Turkey, and Saudi Arabia in supporting, financing and arming terrorists coming to fight in Syria from more than 100 countries.

“Syria is a secular country and the Syrian people do not discriminate between Muslims and Christians, Shaaban said, adding that “the Syrians who lived for hundreds of years in peace and harmony will continue to do so and will not allow those who waged this war against them to achieve their sectarian divisional goals in the country.”

Shaaban thanked members of the delegation for their visit, for their support to the Syrian people and for their efforts as to convey the true image of what is going on in Syria to the US churches and people.

Member of the guest US delegation Marilyn Borst told SANA that the delegation is visiting Syria at an invitation from the National Evangelical Synod in Syria and Lebanon. The visit aims at supporting the Syrian people against terrorism.

“We are partners with the National Evangelical Synod in Syria and Lebanon and we are friends of all the churches in Syria, Borst said, pointing out that the delegation has made several visits to Syria and every time they returned home they try to correct the distorted image promoted by the West about events in Syria

“What distinguishes this visit from previous ones is people’s movement, the crowdedness and continuity of normal life,” Borst said, hoping that peace and security will be restored to Syria as soon as possible.
