DAMASCUS, Dec.18, (ST)-Today, the Special Advisor to the Presidency of the Republic, Buthaina Shaaban, discussed with the Director-General of the Department of West Asian and North African Affairs of the Chinese Foreign Ministry, Wang Di, the fields of joint cooperation and their future horizons.
During their meeting, topics related to enhancing cooperation in various fields and initiatives presented by Chinese President Xi Jinping during the past years related to international security, human civilization, and economic growth as well as the Belt and Road Initiative were tackled.
Shaaban said that President Bashar Al-Assad considered his meeting with President Xi Jinping as so important and historic that led to a strategic partnership, stressing the necessity of consolidating active work between the two countries to further raise the level of the relationship, according to the Syrian Arab News Agency (SANA)
She also underlined that the bilateral ties have remarkably developed in recent years, indicating that the relationship with China is important for all developing countries, not just Syria, and it is necessary to strengthen this partnership further in various fields during the next stage with the major changes in the international situation and the prominence of China’s role.
Shaaban pointed out that the U.S. and the Israeli occupation failed to marginalize Syria’s role with regard to Palestine and the Arab countries, despite all the attempts they made, because the Syrian policy relied on firm principles.
She referred to the fact that Syria considers that the goal of the current Israeli aggression on Gaza is to terrorize the rising powers in the world, such as China, Russia, and the BRICS countries, which have begun to take an advanced position on the international scene.
She added that the United States aims through sending aircraft carriers and submarines to the region to send a message to the global balance and not to a few resistance forces as it used the Veto in the Security Council against stopping the aggression against Gaza.
“Today Arabs say that Syria is right in all the principles it adheres to,” Shaaban affirmed.
For his part, the Chinese official said that relations between Syria and China are distinguished, and have witnessed great development as a result of the common and fundamental ideas between the two countries, pointing out that China is ready to develop cooperation to reach new and distinguished positive results, which will greatly benefit the interests of the two peoples.
