Severe food shortage in ISIS-besieged Der Ezzour city east of Syria

About 200.000 civilians are suffering from severe shortage of food in Der Ezzour city, which has been besieged by the ISIS since a year, according to the Beirut-based al-Mayadeen Television channel.

The TV channel broadcasted a report from the city where some civilians said: “We do not have food.. we eat soil and berseem…Feel what we are feeling … “

The city located east of Syria was rich with agricultural products and livestock, but it is now suffering from sharply deteriorating conditions.

There is neither power nor water and the education process has been badly affected by the repeated terror mortar fire on the city.

Three days ago, reuters quoted chair of a U.N. humanitarian task force Jan Egeland as saying that the United Nations plans to make its first air drops of food and other aid in Syria, to Der Ezzour city

“It’s a complicated operation and would be in many ways the first of its kind,” he told reporters in Geneva.

Egeland added: “In the past 24 hours, 114 U.N. trucks had delivered life-saving food and medical supplies to 80,000 people in five besieged areas, enough for one month.”
