Settlers Raze Southeastern Side of Ibrahimi Mosque Squares

Settlers under the protection of the Israeli occupation forces bulldozed on Tuesday the southeastern side of the Ibrahimi Mosque in Hebron in the West Bank.

The director of the Ibrahimi Mosque, Sheikh Hefzy Abu Sneina said that groups of settlers and the occupation forces carried out excavations and bulldozed parts of the southeastern side of the courtyards of the Haram in order to expand settlements and implement a Judaization scheme to establish an elevator for settlers.

The Director of Hebron Endowments, Sheikh Jamal Abu Aram said in turn that the excavations and deliberate sabotage carried out by the occupation in the area is only the beginning of destruction that will affect large areas of the Ibrahimi Mosque in violation of all international covenants and resolutions that call for preservation and protection of  the Ibrahimi Mosque as a cultural heritage.

In August 2021, the occupation authorities announced a Judaization scheme on an area of 300 square meters of the Ibrahimi Mosque. The scheme included the construction of an electric elevator to facilitate settlers’ incursions.

It is noteworthy that Hebron was enlisted  on the World Heritage List in 2017 and on the World Heritage List in Danger in the same year due to the risks posed to the Old City and the Ibrahimi Mosque as a result of the Israeli occupation practices and repeated violations that aim to obliterate Hebron’s Arab identity.
