Serbian Foreign Minister: We Oppose Imposing Sanctions on Russia

Belgrade (ST) – Serbian Foreign Minister Ivica Dačić affirmed that his country opposes imposing sanctions on Russia, adding that the West’s demand for Belgrade to apply this is unfair.

Dačić said in an interview with the Kurier newspaper: “Serbia did not impose sanctions on Russia, but the volume of foreign trade between the two countries declined despite that. At the same time, the volume of trade between Russia and some Western countries that imposed sanctions against Moscow increased”.

He stressed that his country’s refusal to impose sanctions against Russia is in line with the economic interests of the Serbian state, its sovereignty, and territorial integrity.

Dačić added: “Belgrade opposes imposing any restrictions and sanctions because the Serbs themselves have gone through this unfair experience and know what it means”.

Serbian president Aleksandar Vučić announced several times that his country will continue to adhere to military neutrality about the Ukrainian crisis, and that the Western countries are increasing pressure on Serbia because of its refusal to support the restrictive measures against Russia.
