Senator Richard Black: If U.S. Stops Training, Arming Terrorists War in Syria Will End

BEIRUT, (ST)- US Senator Richard Black believes that if his country stops training and arming the terrorists in Syria the war in this country will come to an end.

Black’s remarks came during his meeting with leader of the Lebanese Change and Reform Bloc General Michael Aoun on Monday in Beirut where both officials discussed developments in the region.

The US senator hoped that his country will change its negative policy towards Syria.

“We have backed terrorism against the legitimate government in this country, and this fact has become more evident after the country’s parliamentary elections,” he said.

“If the United States stops training terrorists in camps in Saudi Arabia, Jordan and other countries and if it halts its arms supplies to the terrorist groups the war in Syria will come to an end,” Senator Black added, expressing hope that the next US president will have a clearer idea about what is going on in Syria so as the US policy can be changed to be more positive towards Syria.

Black hailed the Syrian constitution, stressing that it is a modern constitutions as it preserves women rights and guarantees the freedom of religion unlike in Saudi Arabia where women have no rights or freedoms and where no elections are held, and also unlike in Turkey where more freedoms are being curbed.

The US senator called for admitting that the tragic events in Syria have negatively affected the entire world, referring to the terrorist attacks which hit Paris, Brussels and Boston.
