Security Council to discuss OPCW report on 20th of this month about alleged Douma attack

New York, (ST) – The permanent Russian mission to the United Nations announced that on January 20, the UN Security Council will discuss the report of the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW) on the alleged chemical attack in Douma in April 2018.

Tass News Agency quoted spokesman for the Russian Permanent Mission to the UN Fyodor Strzhizhovsky on Monday as saying that “Russia has put forward an initiative to convoke an Arria-Formula meeting of the UN Security Council members to discuss the situation surrounding the OPCW report.”

“The meeting will focus on the investigation into this incident by the OPCW fact-finding mission. The session is scheduled for the afternoon of January 20,” Strzhizhovsky said

Wikileaks website revealed in December new evidence of the OPCW’s tampering with the final report on the alleged chemical attack in Douma and the publication of four documents that reveal that “toxicologists excluded that the deaths were due to exposure to chlorine,” and that another document showed, based on email message exchanges between members of the OPCW that the organization’s senior official, Sebastian Praha, had ordered the withdrawal of the report, which contained irregularities about the alleged chemical attack from the organization’s archive and removed all its traces.

Russian Foreign Ministry affirmed Last March, that the ignoring by the OPCW to the information provided by Russia and Syria about the fabrication of using chemical weapons in Douma raises concerns as it seems that the aims of this organization is to justify the US-British-French tripartite aggression on Syria.
