Security Council “concerned” over risks of deteriorating humanitarian situation in the northeastern of Syria

UNITED NATIONS, (ST)- The UN Security Council said on Wednesday that the Turkish aggression on the Syrian territories threatens security and stability in the region, worsens the suffering of civilians, leads to the displacement of tens of thousands of people and hampers the delivery of humanitarian aid to the displaced, according to the Syrian News Agency (SANA).

In a short statement following a closed-door meeting, representatives of the council’s member states said that they are concerned over the risks of the deteriorating humanitarian situation in the northeastern region of Syria because of the Turkish aggression and the escape of thousands of Daesh terrorists.

 After the meeting the United States, China and the council’s five European members – Britain, France, Germany, Poland and Belgium – all separately called on Turkey to halt its attack, but the Security Council statement did not, Reuters reported.

On Monday, UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres said that the Turkish aggression on the Syrian territories in Hasaka and Raqqa has generated many civilian casualties and displaced up to 160,000 people in less than a week.
