Over 50 applications have been submitted by people from flashpoint provinces and opposition parties to run for the parliamentary elections due to be held on April 13th,  Secretary General of Damascus Governorate Mohammad Bashar al-Haffar said Sunday.

He told the Damascus-based al-Watan newspaper that the Judicial Committee branch in Damascus Governorate  received 50 applications for parliamentary candidates from flashpoint provinces, including  23 from Der Ezzour, 13 from Aleppo and its countryside, 10 from Raqqa and 7 from Idleb.

Al-Haffar added that there are applications from 6 licensed parties, some of them are opposition.

The number of candidates for the elections reached up to 2745 applications in all provinces until Sunday at 8:00 PM, according to the Syrian television channel, which clarified that the last date for receiving applications is March 2nd.

In this context, the al-Thawra newspaper reported that the parliamentary elections for the 2nd legislative term is an important station in the political and constitutional life and reflects Syria’s firm stances and steadfastness in combatting terrorism and its supporters.

“The elections prove the Syrian people’ support for their leadership and army that achieves successive victories over the hostile forces involved in the conspiracy against Syria,” the paper added.
