School re-inaugurated following restoration in Qaboun area in Damascus

The Ministry of Education has re-inaugurated the Ahmed Munif Al-Aidi School in the Qaboun area of Damascus after renovations to the building and equipping the school with supplies following a grant by China.

The elementary school’s square area is about 1,500 meters, consisting of three floors, 24 classrooms, two library rooms, and an information hall. The school accommodates 212 male and female students, according to the Director of Damascus Education Suleiman Al-Younes.

Al-Younes stated that the school that has been opened and put into service for the second stage, will be the nucleus of a model school that would relieve pressure on surrounding schools.

The Minister of Education, Dr. Muhammad Amer Al-Mardini, praised China’s role in the reconstruction of Syria, especially in the educational sector, indicating that this grant to renovate schools contributes to building an educated and cultured generation and perpetuates the historical relations that exist between China and Syria.

Minister Al-Mardini confirmed that the government is currently working on preparing a cooperation matrix to deepen Syrian-Chinese relations, specifically in the educational aspect and the exchange of educational cadres between the two countries.

In turn, the Chinese Ambassador to Syria, Shi Hongwei, expressed his happiness at reopening the school and putting it into service, noting the efforts of the Ministry of Education to provide education to children and reopen schools so as to achieve the reconstruction of Syria.

The Chinese ambassador stressed the strength of the historical Syrian-Chinese relations and his country’s determination to continue providing humanitarian aid to the Syrian side and providing grants to renovate schools.

Head of the Department of School Buildings in Damascus, engineer Waad Samaan, said that the restoration process lasted three months, after the school was destroyed due to terrorist crimes, noting that it was fully rehabilitated through the Chinese grant.
