SCC approves three presidential candidates’ applications

DAMASCUS,(ST)_The Supreme Constitutional Court has approved three out of twenty-four applications submitted to run for the forthcoming presidential elections, Lawyer Majed Khadra declared on Sunday.

The court’s Spokesman said at a news conference held today that the applications submitted by Mr. Maher Abdulhafiz Hajjar, Mr.Hassan Abdullah al-Nouri and Dr.Bashar Hafez al-Assad were approved.

The approval was based on the constitution and the general election law and it came after studying the applications by the court, lawyer Khadra stressed. http://www.syriatimes.sy/index.php/presidential-elections/12551-constitutional-articles-for-the-presidential-elections.

 He noted that the candidates whose applications were rejected could submit grievance requests to the court in three days, as of Monday 5th.

The spokesman called on the citizens who support any of the three candidates not to practice any activity or make media propaganda before the announcement of the final list of approved candidates.

The presidential elections are scheduled to be held on May28th for the Syrians abroad and on June 3rd for the Syrian residents in the country.
