DAMASCUS, (ST)-A delegation of Syrian expatriates representing the Syrian American Will Association (SAWA) is visiting Syria to voice support for and solidarity with the homeland in the face of the ongoing terrorist war. The delegation had the opportunity to hold meetings with Syrian officials including ministers of health and tourism in addition to the Grand Mufti of the Syrian Arab Republic.
Today, Grand Mufti Ahmad Badreddin Hassoun met SAWA delegation and hailed the role being played by the Syrian expatriates in defense of their homeland against aggressions and conspiracies.
“Syria withstood the conspiracy because the Syrian people have rallied around their hero army and their wise brave leadership and also because of the support and solidarity of the Syrians abroad,” the Mufti said, stressing that the support of the Syrian expatriates for their homeland confirms their deep loyalty and affirms that “the Syrians wherever they are will continue to cling to their roots and to defend their homeland.”
On his part, Deputy Head of the Association Ali al-Rayes said SAWA worked to convey the real image of what was going on in Syria to the American public opinion and to play an effective role in the fight against terrorism and in preventing foreign intervention in Syria’s internal affairs.
SAWA member Mounzer Ahmad said “we are keen on conveying the real image of the terrorist war being waged on our homeland to the US political decision makers as to make them realize that the American administration’s policy towards Syria is unconstructive and it doesn’t serve the interests of both the Syrian and American peoples.
On Monday, a meeting between Health Minister Nizar Yazigi and SAWA delegation highlighted the situation of the Syrian health sector, the repercussions of the western economic sanctions on this sector and the government’s efforts to meet the needs of the citizens of medicines and health care.
Yazigi stressed that the ministry will continue to exert utmost efforts for delivering the medical services to those in need in all areas in spite of the terrorist targeting of the health institutions and the one-sided economic siege imposed on the Syrian people, which has left negative impacts on the health sector, according to SANA.
The minister pointed to the role of the Syrian expatriates in supporting their motherland and conveying the reality of the events taking place in the country to the world.
He reviewed the damage caused to the health sector due to targeting it by terrorist organizations throughout the past five years and the difficulties facing it while securing the qualitative medicines and medical equipment.
Head of SAWA delegation Qussai Ahmad, on his part, referred to the efforts exerted by the Syrian expatriates in the USA in support of the Syrian people. He expressed the readiness of SAWA members to contribute to providing necessary medical aid that may help alleviates some of the suffering of the Syrians.
In the same context, Tourism Minister Bisher Yazigi also met with members of the guest delegation and affirmed that Syrian expatriates’ activities around the world prove the Syrian expatriates’ high sense of belongingness to their homeland.
