Saudi medical team from King Salman Relief and Humanitarian Aid Center in coordination with the Al Ameen Organization for Humanitarian Assistance, has begun implementing the Saudi Volunteer program “Amal” (hope) in several hospitals in Damascus.
Specialist doctors from the team have started performing surgeries at the National University Hospital in Damascus. These surgeries will continue for a period ranged from one week and 10 days, during which 50 surgeries are planned to be carried out.
Director of Planning and International Cooperation at the Ministry of Health Dr. Zuhair Qarat stated in statement to SANA that the program has also begun at Al Biruni Hospital, providing services to approximately 50 children, and securing chemotherapy doses for three months, as well as conducting some specific surgeries related to oncology.
For his part, Dr. Maawiya Harsooni, Executive Director of the Al Ameen Organization, mentioned in a similar statement that the program will provide 104 medical projects, along with economic and educational empowerment workshops. The most urgent projects have begun to respond to the needs of the Syrian people.
Dr. Alaa Al Khateeb, Medical Program Director at Al-Ameen in Damascus, explained that the goal of launching the “Amal” volunteer program is to assist the Syrian people in addressing some of their medical needs.
Meanwhile, Dr. Ali Al Qarni, head of the Saudi delegation, confirmed that implementing the program will require more than 218,000 hours of volunteer work with the participation of over 100 volunteers.
The program will continue until the end of 2025 and will include medical services, training, and rehabilitation and will include all medical specializations.
