Saudi Arabia, Gulf States Send Zionist Occupation Messages on Readiness to Change “Arab Peace Initiative”
OCCUPIED Al-QUDS, (ST)-Saudi Arabia and some Gulf states, whose secret relations with Israel have become open, have sent messages to Israeli leaders about their readiness to make changes to the Arab peace initiative, also known “Saudi peace initiative “adopted by Beirut Arab summit in 2002, Western diplomatic sources announced.
Syria rejected the Saudi initiative, but later accepted it to maintain the minimum level of common Arab action, particularly after some amendments were made to the initiative stressing adherence to restoring the occupied Arab territories to the June 4th, 1967 line including the occupied Syrian Golan, adherence to the right of the Palestinian refugees to return and adherence to the establishment of a Palestinian state with al-Quds as a capital.
The Israeli TV Channel 10 said citing the western sources that the Saudi regime’s suggestion to amend the initiative “aims to change its and the Gulf states’ attitude towards Israel in exchange for resuming peace talks between Israel and the Palestinians”.
“Messages in this regard were sent to Israel by Saudi Arabia and some Gulf states and conveyed by international emissaries, including former British Prime Minister Tony Blair,” according to the Israeli channel
The channel clarified that theses Arab countries are expecting to receive an official Israeli response to their proposal of amending the Saudi initiative, noting that the amendments have to do with issues including the occupied Syrian Golan and the right of the Palestinian refugees to return”.
The resumption of Peace talks between Israel and the Palestinian Authority will depend on the results of these countries’ discussions with Israel on the proposed changes to the Arab initiative, said the Israeli channel, noting that discussions are to start immediately after the Gulf states get the Israeli answer.
It is worth mentioning that in response to the Saudi initiative adopted in Beirut Arab Summit in 2002, Israel committed many massacres against the Palestinian people and launched aggressions on Lebanon and Gaza Strip. These aggressive Israeli practices were seen by Syria and some Arab countries as an announcement of the death of the initiative.
Such Israeli practices proved that every time the Arabs show their readiness to cooperate as to attain peace, the Israeli occupation persists in its aggressive and intransigent policies.
Saudi Arabia’s relations with Israel are no longer a secret. Last April, the former Saudi Intelligence officer and head of the Middle East Center for Strategic and Legal Studies in Jeddah Anwar Ishqi announced the Saudi regime’s preparedness “to open a Saudi embassy in Israel if the Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu accepts the Saudi initiative,” a report by SANA said on Saturday.
