NEW YORK, (ST)- Dr. Bashar Al-Jaafari, Syria’s Permanent Representative at the United Nations on Tuesday lashed out at Saudi Arabia for submitting a draft resolution criticizing “the situation of human rights in Syria” at the United Nations.
In a statement during a meeting held by the UN General Assembly’s Third Committee to discuss a draft resolution on “the Situation of Human Rights in Syria”, al-Jaafari said Saudi Arabia’s submitting of the draft was a strange paradox, because the Saudi regime is the last to have the right to talk about human rights at the United Nations given its involvement in terrorist activities and its backwardness in terms of human right and laws.
“Is the Saudi regime ready to comply with the relevant paragraphs of the draft resolution presented against Syria,” al-Jaafari asked.
The involvement of Al Saud of Saudi Arabia and Al Thani of Qatar in sponsoring and supporting terrorism has become evident to all; a fact that was brought to light by “Wikileaks” documents, specifically the recognition by US Presidential Candidate Hillary Clinton and US Vice President Joe Biden that the Saudi and Qatari regimes are involved in supporting and funding terrorism in Syria, not to mention the thousands of satellite -collected images of cars provided by Saudi Arabia, Qatar and some regional countries to “Daesh” terrorist organization in Syria and Iraq, according to al-Jaafari.
The Syrian diplomat asserted that the proposed draft resolution affirmed the state of hysteria and political disability the Saudi regime and its partners suffer as a result of the victories achieved by the Syrian Arab Army and its allied forces against terrorism.
“How can a primitive country like Saudi Arabia, who is not even a party in the International Agreement on civil and Political Rights, can submit a draft resolution against Syria regarding human rights?, al-Jaafari asked, pointing out that such behavior undermines collective efforts to enhance constructive dialogue and build mutual confidence among UN member countries.
“If this is the case, we won’t be surprised to have “Deash” as president of the UN office for peacekeeping operations next year or have “Jabhat al-Nusra”, Boko Haram or al-Shabab terror movements as President of the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA),” al-Jaafri said.
He went on to say that Qatar also can’t criticize human rights situation in Syria given its support for takfiri terrorism and its being a regime with no constitution or election law, not to mention its record of human right violations.
Al-Jaafri urged the UN member states not to be victims of the Saudi and Qatari ill thinking and called on them to vote against this evil draft resolution which prolongs the terrorist war on Syria, hinders any political solution in the country and assigns terrorists as defenders and protectors of human rights in Syria.
