DAMASCUS – The Syrian Arab Red Crescent (SARC) has won an international peace prize in appreciation for its humanitarian efforts.
During the Federation’s general meeting held in Sidney, Australia, the SARC also won again the membership of the Executive Bureau of the International Federation of the Red Cross and Red Crescent societies.
Chief of the SARC Abdul Rahman al-Attar said that the award, which was presented by 189 National Red Cross and Red Crescent societies “proves the confidence given to the Syrian organization and creates a great motive to keep working honestly.”
He added that he is proud of the SARC volunteers who, during the ongoing crisis in Syria, have proved commitment and efficiency as they worked in many hot spots and provided assistance without distinction.
Al-Attar presented the award to the souls of 31 martyrs from the SARC volunteers who lost their lives while doing their humanitarian task.
Chief of the Federation’s Permanent Committee Greg Fekry expressed his appreciation over the efforts of the SRC’s honest staff and brave volunteers who explained to the whole world the real meaning of the basic principles of the international humanitarian movement, represented in neutrality.
The Honorary President of the Dutch Red Cross said: “the Syrian Red Crescent must be an example to be followed by all volunteers.”
“We should follow your courage and determination to help your society,” she added.
