TEHRAN, (ST)- International charters, conventions and human values are severely being violated by Western and some regional states to undermine Syria and force her to change its principled stances against occupation, colonialism and international unilateralism, Ali Akbar Salehi, Iran’s Foreign Minister has stressed.
In a statement published by the Iranian News Agency (IRNA), Salehi said “These countries have openly violated the charters they had signed. This is a unilateral hostile move that can’t be justified under any circumstances.”
He pointed out that Iran, within the framework of its initiative, had informed the United Nations, the UN Syria Envoy Lakhdar Brahimi and some regional countries about these violations.
“Syria is a sovereign state and a UN founding member which is currently facing an international and regional pressure to give up its resisting positions,” Salehi said, noting that these parties have ignored the legitimate right of the Syrian people to self determination and to choose their leadership and political system.
The Iranian Foreign Minster reiterated that Iran together with Russia and China are very decisive on sparing no effort to prevent those parties from destroying Syria.
“Tehran continues to support and enhance dialogue among the Syrians within the framework of national reconciliation efforts,” Salehi said, stressing that the hoped for reforms and the legitimate requests of the Syrian people can’t be attained except by national dialogue away from any international intervention under any pretext.
Meantime, Advisor of the General Commander of the Iranian Armed Forces, General Yehya Rahim Safawi said that the United States is the main cause of instability and insecurity in Syria.
“The US presence in the region and attempts to incite countries, like Turkey, against Syria aim to interfere in the other countries’ affairs and create a state of security chaos in the region,” Safawi said, stressing that the situation in Syria will affect the whole region.
He criticized some Gulf countries’ policies regarding the ongoing events in Syria and the region, saying: “Small countries should know their limits and where they must stop. They should realize that their petrodollars won’t give them any important role in the region.
