Salehi, Joudeh Discuss Syria, Affirm Need to Attain Political Solution Based on Dialogue

AMMAN- Iranian Foreign Minister Ali Akbar Salehi and his Jordanian counterpart, Naser Joudeh have affirmed the need to attain a political solution to the crisis in Syria based on comprehensive national dialogue in which all components of the Syrian society take part and which maintains Syria’s unity.

During a press conference they held in Amman on Tuesday, Salehi reiterate Iran’s rejection to any foreign interference in Syria’s internal affairs and to any solution imposed on the Syrian people from abroad, recalling the results of previous experiences of foreign interference in other countries’ affairs.

The Iranian Minister stressed Iran’s support for the Syrian people in their battle against terrorism and aggression, pointing out that the terrorist al-Qaeda-linked ‘Jabhet al-Nousra” (Al-Nousra Front) has been committing horrible crimes against the Syrian people and that these crimes coincide with the Israeli aggression on Syrian sites.

Warning of the repercussions of the crisis, Salehi urged cooperation among all parties as any vacuum in Syria will have dangerous impacts on the whole region.

“We support the Syrian people and government. Iran keeps contacts with all parties including the Syrian “opposition” which was urged by us to sit with the Syrian government to dialogue table to determine Syria’s future,” Salehi said, pointing out that Iran “recognizes peaceful opposition not the terrorist al-Nousra Front, which commits massacres and desecrates religious shrines.

“Iran provides relief and economic support for the Syrian people, while other countries provides weapons and finance to the terrorists who are responsible for destroying the Syrian state infrastructure.

For his part, the Jordanian Foreign Minister affirmed that his country supports the statement adopted by the International Work Group in  Geneva to solve the crisis in Syria.

“Jordan has adopted a clear stance on the necessity of finding a political solution to the crisis based on national dialogue, which maintain the safety and unity of the Syrian land,” Joudeh said.

Earlier, commenting on a possible reaction to the Israeli aggression on Syrian sites, Salehi said the issue of reacting to this aggression depends on a decision made by the Syrian people and government and no one has the right to interfere. He pointed out that Syria is able to make the decision in accordance with its national interests.
