Sabbagh: US and its western allies escalate their hostile remarks to interfere in Syria’s domestic affairs

NEW YORK, May.30, (ST)-Today, Syria’s permanent representative to the UN, Bassam Sabbagh, said that the US and its western allies are escalating their hostile remarks and provocative measures with the aim of interfering in Syria’s domestic affairs and hindering efforts that aim to achieve security and stability in the country.

“The US troops, who are present illegally on Syrian territory, go ahead with violating Syria’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, supporting separatist militias and looting Syrian resources… The most recent of which was the smuggling of 42 tankers loaded with hundreds of tons of Syrian oil from the fields of the Al-Jazeera region through illegal crossings towards US military bases in Iraqi territory,” Sabbagh said at UN Security council session.

He pointed out that the American false show of emotion towards the human suffering will not obscure the fact that Washington’s wrong policies in Syria caused this suffering by imposing the most illegal and immoral types of sanctions on the Syrian people, in addition to causing a large wave of displacement and asylum by bringing thousands of terrorists to Syria, and through perpetrating war crimes by the American forces in Raqqa, which caused the loss of thousands of Syrian lives and the destruction of the infrastructure.”

Sabbagh stressed the need for an immediate, complete and unconditional lifting of the illegal unilateral coercive measures that contradict international humanitarian law and hinder humanitarian and development work.

Syria’s permanent representative to the UN said that within the framework of the state’s efforts to improve the humanitarian situation of its citizens and to face the repercussions of the earthquake disaster and the tragedy it left behind at the national level, President Bashar Al-Assad issued decree No. 7 on the 1st of May establishing the National Fund to support those affected by the earthquake with the aim of providing them with financial support and helping them to overcome the physical, material or moral harm inflicted on them.

He indicated that this decree represents a major basis for the basic directions and the national action plan that were approved by the government last month to deal with the effects of the earthquake from various aspects.

Sabbagh expressed Syria’s aspiration that the international donors would shoulder their responsibilities, implement their pledges, and provide the required funding for the UN activities and programs to allow the implementation of projects included in the humanitarian response plan and the strategic framework for cooperation between Syria and the UN, and to achieve the goals of sustainable development 2030.

He affirmed Syria’s condemnation of all Western calls for refugees not to return to their homeland and homes under false pretexts.

Moreover, Sabbagh clarified that the Arab Summit held recently in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia achieved a great achievement, as it restored the glory of the collective Arab position and the joint Arab action.

He indicated that Arab countries affirmed their support to Syria in preserving its sovereignty and territorial integrity and overcoming the difficult circumstances it is going through as a result of the terrorist war it faced, the economic measures imposed on it and the repercussions of the devastating earthquake that hit it.

He added that the Israeli occupation fuels situation in the region through escalating its attacks on the Syrian territories and perpetrating crimes and violations of international law and conventions.

“Syria calls on Security Council to not remain silent, assume responsibility and put an end to the Israeli hostile practices and bring perpetrators into justice,” Ambassador Sabbagh said, according to the Syrian Arab News Agency ( SANA).
He affirmed that reaching political solution requires eliminating terrorism, stop interference in Syrian domestic affairs and rejecting the destructive initiatives of some states.

Sabbagh concluded by saying hat Syria will not restore its normal relations with those who occupy its lands, and that the political solution which it seeks requires the elimination of terrorism and the stop of interference in its internal affairs, and the rejection of the destructive initiatives of some well-known countries that aim to obstruct this solution, as well as all its attempts to restore its colonial legacies that are gone forever .
