Sabbagh underlines the importance of conveying the truth about the suffering of Syrians to European public opinion

Damascus (ST): People’s Assembly Speaker Hammouda Sabbagh stressed during his meeting  with Terry Mariani, member of the European Parliament and his accompanying delegation, that the unilateral coercive economic measures imposed on the Syrian people represent a flagrant violation of international humanitarian law and human rights charters, calling for these measures to be lifted completely.

During the meeting, Sabbagh expressed  appreciation for the positions of Mariani and the accompanying delegation in supporting the Syrian issues, indicating the importance of conveying the truth about the suffering and pain of the Syrians to the European and French public opinion, especially with regard to the medical sector as a result of preventing and obstructing the supply of medical equipment and devices to hospitals in Syria in addition to the rest of the sectors.

He indicated that some countries are using the Syrian refugee file to pressure the Syrian state and are trying to blackmail the international community with this issue under false allegations related to human rights, stressing that Syria has held several international conferences to secure the return of these refugees to their cities and villages and continues to work to provide the requirements for their return to the areas liberated by the Syrian Arab Army from terrorism and the rehabilitation of its infrastructure.

For his part, Mariani explained that the delegation is currently visiting Syria to learn about the reality of the repercussions that the Syrian people are subjected to as a result of the sanctions imposed on them.

Mariani believed that the European Union should be grateful that Syria has remained united, expressing thanks for the sacrifices made by the Syrian army in order to defend Syria, liberate its lands and protect civilians.
