Sabbagh to delegations of Iraqi Parliament and Iranian Shoura Council: We highly appreciate your response to the call to keep pace with presidential elections
During his meeting on May 24th with a delegation from the Iraqi Parliament, Speaker of the People’s Assembly HammoudaSabbagh, affirmed the deeply rooted relations between Syria and Iraq, highlighting Iraq’s incessant support to Syria in all domains.
Sabbagh expresses appreciation for the Iraqi parliament’s response to the invitation addressed to it to keep pace with the presidential election process scheduled to be held on the 26th of this month, calling for the development of the Syrian-Iraqi parliamentary relations and pushing them forward to achieve the aspiration of the two brotherly peoples.
For his part, the head of the Iraqi delegation, a member of the Iraqi parliament, Katei Al-Rikabi, affirmed his country’s firm position in support of Syria’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, indicating that the Syrian presidential elections represent a victory for the will of the Syrian people and a testament to their ability to overcome all adversities and difficulties. He underlined the importance of strengthening and developing parliamentary relations and exchanging visits between the People’s Assembly In Syria and the Iraqi parliament.
Hammouda Sabbagh also met with a delegation from the Iranian Islamic ShouraCouncil headed by Zahra Lahian, head of the Human Rights Committee of the National Security and Foreign Policy Committee in the Council.
During the meeting, Sabbagh emphasized the depth and strength of the historical Syrian-Iranian relations, expressing his thanks to the Council for responding to the invitation addressed to it to participate in coping with the presidential elections and its appreciation for Iran’s permanent support to the Syrian people in all fields.
Sabbagh stressed the need to strengthen various aspects of bilateral cooperation between the two friendly countries, especially the parliamentary ones, in a way that contributes to serving common interests and exchanging experiences between the two sides.
Al-Lahian said that the presidential elections that will take place on Wednesday represent an important and fateful turning point in the modern history of Syria and contribute directly to achieving a bright and prosperous future for the Syrian people, who have suffered for years from the terrorist war.
Al-Lahian clarified that supporting Syria in all fields represents a “steadfast position in the supreme strategy” of her country, expressing her thanks for the invitation extended by the Syrian People’s Assembly to the Iranian Shoura Council to keep pace with thepresidential elections, which is evidence of the transparency and integrity of these elections.
