Sabbagh : The Security Council’s failure to take any action to deter the Israeli occupation encourages it to escalate its aggression against the brotherly Lebanese people

Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Bassam Sabbagh stressed that the Security Council’s failure to take any action to deter the Israeli occupation has encouraged it to escalate its aggression against the brotherly Lebanese people.  This confirms its disregard fot the United Nations Charter and international law and its insistence to expand the scope of the genocidal war with American support.

Sabbagh said during a session of the UN Security Council on the situation in the Middle East on Wednesday:” A few days ago, the Security Council held an emergency session to deal with the Israeli Cyber terrorist attack on the Lebanese. For several days now, “Israel” has been continuing its brutal, violent bombardment that has not spared people or stones, and has not spared a home, hospital or school without targeting it, resulting in the martyrdom of hundreds of civilians, and more than 500 people were martyred in one day, including women, children, media correspondents and relief workers, and causing a large displacement movement”.

Sabbagh continued: “Syria condemns in the strongest terms the shameful, barbaric Israeli aggression against brotherly Lebanon, and renews its expression of full solidarity with the Lebanese people, and its complete readiness to provide support and assistance to the Lebanese brothers in all sectors they need. Syria stresses the need for the Security Council to take immediate and urgent action to condemn the multi-faceted Israeli aggression, stop the killing and destruction machine, and prevent “Israel” from igniting a comprehensive war in the region”.

Sabbagh explained that the Israeli aggressive war on the Palestinian people, which has been going on for nearly a year, was also accompanied by systematic and repeated attacks on Syria, where the Israeli occupation forces targeted many areas in Syria with missiles. These attacks lead to the martyrdom of many civilians and the wounding of many others, and causing damage to the infrastructure, vital civilian facilities, residential buildings, and even diplomatic headquarters.

Sabbagh stressed that the continuation of the Israeli occupation entity’s barbaric and brutal aggression against the Palestinians, Syrians and Lebanese would not have happened without the unlimited and multi-faceted support provided by the United States of America to this entity.

Sabbagh called on the Security Council to end the state of paralysis it is experiencing and to take immediate action to implement its resolutions related to the Arab-Israeli conflict, most notably Resolutions 242, 338 and 497.
