Sabbagh : The concern that all should express is over the practices of US occupation in Syria

NEW YORK, March.24, (ST)- Syria’s permanent representative to the UN, Ambassador Bassam Sabbagh, said that restoration of security and stability to Syria necessitates the West’s  abandonment of its hostile polices and stopping its support for terrorism as well as ending the occupation and illegitimate foreign presence in the country and removing the blockade as well as supporting the Syrian state’s efforts to achieve development and reconstruction.

“Some states have issued during the current month statements to commemorate the 11th anniversary of the terrorist war on Syria through their terrorist agents with the aim of hindering Syria’s development, destroying its achievements and shedding the blood of its citizens who defend their country’s sovereignty and dignity,” Sabbagh said at a security council session on Thursday.

He referred to the phrase of “expressing concern” that those  countries persist on using in their statements, saying that the real concern that all  should express is over the practices of the US  occupation forces and their support to the separatist militias in northeastern part of Syria, and their share in looting national resources  and the practices of the Turkish occupation and its support to terrorists in northwestern Syria.

Sabbagh added that over the past 11 years, some have shed tears on the suffering of the Syrian people, but they deny that this suffering is the result of the failed policies of those countries, their aggressive actions, provocative statements and their human hypocrisy.

He clarified that the suffering of the Syrian people started when those states undermined the status of security and stability that the Syrian citizen has lived and their use of terrorist and criminal elements to spread chaos, terror and fear, sabotage and destroy infrastructure and development achievements.

Sabbagh pointed out to the efforts exerted by the Syrian State to return security and stability to all regions through reconciliations and settlement processes taking place in many cities and areas in implementation of the amnesty decrees that enabled thousands of Syrians inside and outside the country to return to their normal lives.

Moreover, the ambassador indicated that the call of some countries for political solution to the crisis is Syria is   hypocrisy, because they want a solution according to their perspective, which does not respect the will of the Syrian people.

He underscored Syria’s commitment to a political solution based on a Syrian-Syrian national dialogue and a political process under the leadership and ownership of Syria without any external interference and in a manner that achieves the hopes of the Syrian people and ensures full commitment to respecting Syria’s sovereignty, independence, unity and territorial integrity, stressing its rejection of any external intervention in the work of the Constitutional Committee or attempts to hinder its work.
