Sabbagh: Syria, Russia Are Partners in Achieving Victories against Terrorism

DAMASCUS – Speaker of the People’s Assembly Hammoudeh Sabbagh said on Saturday that Syria and Russia are partners in achieving victories over terrorism and they will be partners in rebuilding what has been destroyed by terrorism in Syria.

According to SANA, during a meeting a delegation from the Russian State Duma, headed by Dmitry Sablin, Sabbagh and the delegation discussed bilateral cooperation between the two countries in all fields, especially parliamentary relations and means to develop them.

Sabbagh affirmed the importance of developing relations between Syria and Russia, which have been baptized by the blood of the Syrians and Russians that was spilled on Syrian soil, expressing the Syrians’ appreciation of Russia’s stances in support of Syria’s sovereignty and its independent decision.

 He said that the Syria’s top priority is to eliminate terrorism, enhance local reconciliations, and moving ahead with reconstruction, as well as the return of displaced people to their cities and villages.

For his part, Sablin underlined the need to activate work of Friendship Societies at the People’s Assembly and the Russian State Duma, increase mutual visits, and coordinate in social and economic fields, particularly in humanitarian work.

He affirmed the importance of solving the crisis in Syria politically through dialogue among the Syrians themselves without any foreign interference, hoping that security and stability will restore to the country.

Speaker Sabbagh lauds positions of FEARAB states regarding Syria

Sabbagh met a delegation from the Federation of Arab American Associations (FEARAB) headed by Alfredo Gutierrez, saying that many of the member states of the Association adopted honorable positions towards Syria in its war against terrorism.

Sabbagh hoped that Association’s members will play a positive role in the reconstruction stage in Syria, calling for enhancing relations between their countries and Syria.

For his part, Gutierrez underlined the need for more visits by delegations from Latin America and Central America to Syria to take a closer look at the situation in the country away from the misleading distortion of facts by certain media outlets, adding that FEARAB will support Syria and convey what is taking place in it to the world.
