Sabbagh: South-South cooperation is a factor of integration in its efforts to achieve internationally approved development goals
During the general meeting of the twentieth session of the High-level Committee on South-South Cooperation, which was held via video with the participation of a number of ministers, Sabbagh stressed the need for South-South cooperation to be based on the principles contained in the final document of the Nairobi meeting.
Sabbagh explained that the outbreak of the Corona epidemic since the beginning of last year represented a global threat to public health and a serious challenge to all member states.
Sabbagh added that the countries of the south, and after more than a year and a half, are still below the required level, whether in terms of cooperation to confront the repercussions of the epidemic or in relation to obtaining vaccines.
Sabbagh indicated that the Kovacs facility could be a catalyst for global access to vaccines, but that it would not be sufficient alone to ensure overcoming the epidemic and overcoming the negative repercussions it left.
Sabbagh stressed the need to ensure fair, rapid and affordable global access to vaccines, detection equipment and healthcare services.
Sabbagh pointed out that what makes the matter worse for some countries, including Syria, is the accompanying epidemic and its negative repercussions with the unilateral coercive measures imposed by some northern countries, which limit the ability of national state institutions to deal with the effects of the epidemic.
Sabbagh called for the lifting of these illegal measures that violate the principles of international law, the provisions of the United Nations Charter and human rights instruments.
Sabbagh expressed Syria’s aspiration to establish just global partnerships based on respect for the principles of international law and the provisions of the United Nations Charter.
