Sabbagh receives Indonesian parliamentary delegation

DAMASCUS, May.16, (ST)- Speaker of the People’s Assembly [Parliament] Hamouda Sabbagh received on Tuesday an Indonesian parliamentary delegation, headed by Fadli Zon, Chairman of the Inter-Parliamentary Cooperation Committee at the House of Representatives.

The talks between the two sides dealt with the importance of boosting bilateral relations between the two countries.

Sabbagh praised Indonesia’s support for the Syrian issues and the Syrian people to overcome the effects of catastrophic earthquake that hit many provinces last February.

For his part, Zon described the Indonesian-Syrian relations as “historical and very deep”, especially that Syria is one of the first countries to recognize Indonesia’s independence.

He asserted his country’s support for Syria in confronting the foreign plots and interference it has been exposed to for more than 12 years.

The Indonesian parliamentarian expressed his country’s aspiration to develop political, diplomatic, economic and tourism relations between the two countries, according to the Syrian Arab News Agency (SANA).
